CIV-JAM works closely with approximately twenty-five Jamaican civil society organizations (CSOs). We believe that CSOs whose missions focus on justice, human rights, citizen security and good governance have a critical role to play in addressing the nefarious effects of sustained levels of criminality and violence on Jamaica and her citizens. CIV-JAM aims to increase collaboration and coalition building among these organizations to heighten the impact of their work. Our partner CSOs were therefore chosen based on the following criteria:

1. Having a mission of national scope?whether codified or implicit.

2. Having as a principal thematic focus one or more of the following concerns:

? peace
? justice
? human rights
? political and civic rights
? citizen security
? police/community relations
? civic education
? participation in democratic processes, and
? government responsiveness, transparency and accountability.
