Civil Society and the Media The role of the media is critical to strengthening good governance. The Jamaican media and its journalists have a special role to play in enhancing Jamaica’s tradition of citizen involvement and advocacy. To this end, MSI/CIV-JAM works with media houses and NGOs towards building good governance. We do this by supporting and organizing various initiatives, including workshops and seminars. We have established a Civil Society Award for Investigative Journalism to recognize excellence in this area. MSI/CIV-JAM holds a series of roundtable discussions to facilitate and strengthen partnerships between the media and civil society, on topics such as Media-Civil Society Partnerships for Strengthening Governance, the Legal and Economic Challenges of Investigative Journalism and Media and Governance: Reporting on Crime and Violence. |
